Charlotte Tilbury Legendary Lashes Mascara Review - Legendary or Lacking?

Price: £25.00/$32.00
Claims: "Inspired by starlets and supermodels, born on the red carpet, this revolutionary new lash-enhancing elastic formula extends out the lashes like a piece of elastic and holds them there for the longest, most luscious lashes of your life with 13x more volume in just three coats! It doesn’t clump, doesn’t crack and doesn’t drop! Whenever I do red carpet work I will choose to dial up either the eyes or lips, but one thing that is always FULL VOLUME are the lashes. A thick, lush Hollywood false lash effect will enhance the shape of your eye, bring out the eye colour and frame the entire face. This is really important as the longer the lashes, the more flattering the look - whether you are creating a wing, doll, or false-lash look, it is ALL about the lashes!"
Rating: 3/5 stars

I want to preface this review by saying I LOVE Charlotte Tilbury. She has been my ultimate make up artist idol for a long time now, she inspires me so much and from the first time I saw her applying make up on a model in a video I felt an instant connection to her as an artist. For a long time friends of mine have said I apply make up in an odd way, always applying winged eyeliner before eyeshadow, different ways of applying blush, applying foundation with a brush and my fingers at the same time, etc. And then I saw Charlotte Tilbury doing it the exact same way, and I was shocked. So I guess if one of the best make up artists in the world does it, I can’t be that weird after all!

When I first heard about this Legendary Lashes mascara via her YouTube channel I knew I had to try it, the claims she makes about this mascara make it sound like a miracle product. She claims you can create 3 different eye looks with this one product: ‘The Wing Lash’, ‘The Doll Lash’ and ‘The False Lash’ which all are meant to dramatically change the look of short, sparse lashes into instantly eye-catching luscious legendary lashes. Although I didn’t try all 3 looks, this is something you can see for yourself on her YouTube channel, I just wanted to try it in place of my usual every day mascara. This is a highly sought after and in some ways overly hyped product, which unfortunately didn’t meet my high expectations.

The package arrived in a brown box with the Charlotte Tilbury logo on the inside of the lid with a burgundy background and light purple tissue paper surrounding the product with a ‘CT’ sticker holding it in place. It was lovely packaging, and superior to a lot of other make up packages I’ve received over the years. I was also able to choose 2 samples of other Charlotte Tilbury products when ordering online (definitely a plus), and I chose the Light Wonder Foundation and the Magic Foundation, both of which I’ll be reviewing soon.

The mascara comes in a burgundy coloured box with gold imprinted lettering, which looks very pretty and high end. The mascara itself is encased in a gold reflective metallic tube with burgundy lettering, which would look very luxurious in anyone’s make up bag and I’m sure a lot of people would ask you where it’s from.

The wand has the classic bristle applicator, compared with the more popular plastic applicators used nowadays to separate lashes. The bristles on the applicator are quite dispersed however, and look like they might have some separating qualities. But still, I’m not usually a fan of these types of applicators as I find they can make the lashes clump, and unfortunately that’s exactly what happened.

Consistency and Finish

Coming in the shade ‘Black Vinyl’, I can attest to the fact that this mascara is SUPER dark black, which is great and makes the lashes stand out even more. However, the formula is very, very wet, which makes it hard to maintain a curl and also lead to smudging - a definite drawback for me. Because of the wet formula, the more layers I added the clumpier the mascara looked. This may be the kind of look that some people want, and I know other beauty bloggers and YouTubers have said they like this, but I wasn’t a fan at all. For the rest of the day after putting the Legendary Lashes mascara on my eyelashes my family and friends commented on how much clumpier my lashes looked than normal. Luckily I’ve been blessed with quite long eyelashes, but I think if you had shorter/more sparse lashes you may like this product a lot more than I do because it definitely does build your lashes up. I’ve seen other people have amazing results with this mascara, including in Charlotte Tilbury’s own YouTube videos, so like I said, it could just be that my eyelashes aren’t suited to this mascara.

Final Thoughts

Unfortunately this product failed to impress me and hasn't made it into my everyday make up bag, however I will keep it in my professional kit to use on clients with shorter/more sparse lashes and see how it turns out on them. Although the mascara definitely gave my lashes more thickness and definition, it also made them look clumpy and my curl dropped almost instantly, leading to smudging throughout the day. For me this product is only a 3/5, but let me know in the comments if you’ve tried it and give me your thoughts! Like I always say, everyones different and what doesn’t work for me could very well work for you. However, for the price (which in my opinion is quite steep for a mascara) I would go to your local Charlotte Tilbury counter and ask one of the make up artists to try it on you before you buy it, or at least do a bit of research online and look for bloggers who have reviewed it with similar lashes to yours. I’m still a massive fan of Charlotte Tilbury and her products, especially her Magic Cream, and if you’d like more reviews of her product please let me know!
